Luz Daniela Abulú Carmona
Born in Lima, Perú in 1988.
Graphic Designer & Analog Collage Maker.
What are the most meaningful topics you try to represent in your work?
My work is very random and covers several topics, I try to represent femininity, power, darkness, light, dreams, mental disorders. Sometimes I focus only on the aesthetic part and not on the meaning, then eventually I think of a name that encloses that universe. i love how you can represent a lot of things at once, differents worlds, different perspectives but all of them connected..
How did you find your own style ?
Doing a lot of terrible design at first but getting good at it through the years as a graphic designer, catastrophic personal experiences and really good ones.
What do you think about the new art trends?
Talking about the digital universe, I was a little bit closed minded some time ago, and didnt want to embrace new trends, just because i thought it wasnt "pretty", but my perspective has changed and i appreciate what new trends have to offer and its better to use it than to hate it.
Why did you choose this technique to create your work?
I use this technique as a therapy. It relaxes me a lot. I also chosed it because its like a puzzle that mixes a lot of things like: what i want to express, color palettes, composition, theme, etc. I can really let myself be with this technique, I find it very entertaining and pleasing.
Do you remember your first work in which you decide to be an artist?
what would it be, tell us about it.
Yeah, well my first collage was a large piece of lots of eyes thats i glued together but the one which made me want to show my world to others was "influencers", which is a composition of several external factors that condicionate ones behavior and how much it can change your perspective.
Tell us about your creative process to make a collage.
I almost never have something already in mind to make a collage, it all depends on the resources I have in my hands. Sometimes is so easy that i think im just lucky.
I think it starts when I see all the cuttings of magazines or books and material on my desk and I start to combine them with each other until I have several options, then I start to assemble a piece, and then I take a photo and retouch it a bit in photoshop to upload it.
